Description:

The ASCLS Scientific Assemblies (SA) play important roles aligned under the Knowledge pillar of the ASCLS Strategic Framework. Each Scientific Assembly will be led by board appointed chair and vice chair for one-year terms. The Vice Chair automatically moved into the Chair position at the conclusion of the Vice Chair term.

In addition to the responsibility of leading the Scientific Assembly to achieve its purpose, each chair and vice chair will be a member of the Scientific Assemblies Leadership Community made up of all the chair/vice chair positions of all the SAs as well as the Coordinator and Vice Coordinator.

The role of the SAs is to facilitate the Society’s efforts to integrate scientific expertise across all disciplines, making it clinically relevant and useful. To accomplish this, the SAs identify and bring to light critical, important, and impactful information from experts with deep expertise is each of the scientific disciplines. In some cases, subject matter experts may be part of the SA membership, but in many cases, subject matter expertise will exist outside ASCLS.

Scientific Assemblies Purpose

  • Organize scientific expertise within a specific discipline to inform ASCLS decision-making and direction-setting. This includes providing an expert review of educational proposals within the SA’s area of expertise.
  • Provide opportunities for basic and continuing education based on identified knowledge gaps within the profession.
  •  Identify and distill clinically relevant information to integrate new knowledge into the work of clinical laboratories.
  • Identify avenues for recognition and professional advancement.
  • Assist in developing clinical laboratory standards and positions.
  • Participate in CLS discipline-centered written and electronic communication.
  • Identify experts for scientific and professional activities.
  • Using the ASCLS Connect member communities, provide active engagement to build a stronger sense of community.
