Dear Fab 5 and PS&HQ Community Leaders,

This communication is for professionals who currently hold management, quality, risk, patient safety, etc. type leadership positions in laboratories.  As leaders in the respective ASCLS communities, you have been identified as potential participants for a beta test of the new American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science (ASCLS) Patient Safety Benchmark Peer Reporting Program.  The goals of this new program are to establish patient safety benchmarks, measure and track process improvements, allow peer comparisons, and collaborate with colleagues to improve patient safety and patient outcomes.

The program is a complimentary ASCLS member benefit.  ASCLS members may register their laboratory to participate in the program.

We are seeking volunteers from a variety of clinical settings to test the procedures in the program and provide feedback regarding these processes as a beta test participant. As a member of the beta test project, we ask participants to register for the program, gather and submit data for chosen Patient Safety Indicators, be involved in a best practice sharing community, and review reports generated from the program.

The expected time commitment for this project is: review educational materials, attend an orientation meeting to learn about the purpose of the program and receive directions on how to use the program (1 hour), complete the registration progress (15 minutes), collect and submit data for 1-3 month(s), and provide valuable feedback on the program and processes via short questionnaires or virtual meetings.

Beta test participants benefit by receiving reports for their laboratory and information from the program before the program is available to the general ASCLS membership, as well as helping to improve the program. Ultimately the program benefit is assisting laboratories in improving their quality and patient safety efforts and forming a best practice sharing community.

We appreciate your consideration in becoming one of our beta test participants.  Please respond to benchmark@ascls.org by Friday, August 5 with your reply.  We kindly request that you notify us using the process outlined below if you wish to be part of this exciting new program.

Questions about the program or involvement as a beta test participant may be directed to benchmark@ascls.org .

    Thank you.
