Do you ever ask patients before venipuncture if they are allergic to antiseptic scrubs used to clean the venipuncture site? If they are allergic how do you proceed? We had a patient recently who was allergic to chlorhexidine and did not inform us, so the CHG scrub was used to clean the venipuncture site. This is of greater concern for outpatients since you don't see visible cues like signs, allergy bracelets etc before you collect a sample.
