Advocacy

The goal of the WVSCLS is to advocate for the field of clinical laboratory science, all clinical laboratory professionals, and patients throughout West Virginia.  The WVSCLS works closely with other members of ASCLS across the nation to not only advocate for and promote the profession, but to also represent the interest of laboratory professionals with regard to national and state legislation including state licensure of clinical laboratory professionals. 

The WVSCLS is a strong advocate for professional licensure and has worked closely with the WV Office of Laboratory Services in recent years to amend licensure legislation to close certification loopholes and expand license revocation guidelines to ensure patient safety and quality care. 

EDUCATION

The WVSCLS provides various educational opportunities throughout the year. Our education offerings include a variety of topics and levels of instruction suitable for students, educators, and laboratory professionals in all areas of the clinical laboratory.

WVSCLS also supports students state-wide by offering educational scholarships for students currently enrolled in a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) or Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) program.
