    An article, Incivility and Patient Safety:  A Longitudinal Study of Rudeness, Protocol Compliance, and Adverse Events was recently published in the Joint Commission Journal on Quality and Patient Safety.   The findings from this study identified that rudeness from a patient or family member on the healthcare provider (mostly nurses) was associated with a decreased compliance with hand hygiene, decreased information sharing and poor compliance with medication preparation.  The abstract for the article is posted at the link listed below.
