Description: The ability of laboratory professionals to advocate on behalf of the profession is critical to not only advancing the profession, but also to the improvement of patient care and population health outcomes. In this session, we’ll discuss how professional advocacy is crucial for breaking down barriers and ensuring that the vital role of laboratories is recognized and supported in healthcare discussions. Actions to empower laboratory professionals will also be presented.

Objectives:

1.  Outline the partnership between medical laboratory professionals and pathologists to enhance the value of laboratory services and improve patient care.
2. Highlight the importance of showcasing the lab’s contributions to healthcare, particularly to payers, by providing quality testing that impacts patient and community health.
3. Discuss the importance of laboratory leaders engaging with C-suite executives and advocating for the profession to ensure the vital role of laboratories is recognized.
