Two New Patient Safety Tip Brochures Are Now Available for Use
    • Patient Brochure – What Common Substances Can Affect Your Laboratory Test Results?
    • Provider Brochure – Drug-related Laboratory Test Interference

The ASCLS Patient Safety Committee continues to develop Patient and Provider Safety Tip brochures for your use in providing testing information to your patients and providers. We encourage you to customize, print (on two sides), and provide these brochures to your customers.

These new brochures provide guidance to patients, providers and other healthcare professionals on:
    • Common substances (prescriptions and over-the-counter supplements) that can cause laboratory test result errors due to interference
    • Importance of patient-provider communication to identify when patients are taking these types of substances

Possible uses include but are not limited to:
    • Patient and provider-centered education material
    • Prevention of test result errors due to interference from common prescriptions or over-the-counter supplements
    • Reinforce the importance of identifying when patients are taking these common substances prior to laboratory testing
